AvivA moved into the Smoke Rise Community in March 2001 with her husband, Oliver. She began working for DeKalb County Government in June 2005 helping coordinate production and story development for various shows on DCTV Channel 23. AvivA is also host and producer of DCTV's animal-related show, "The Furry Files," a reporter for DCTV’s News Magazine show, “Inside DeKalb” and a co-host of DCTV’s talk-show, “Let’s Talk DeKalb.”
Her outgoing personality and love of...DeKalb County are a perfect match for her current duties which also include working with outside agencies, citizens and representatives from various county departments to create informative, factual reports about county-related services, programs, and events.
Shortly after joining DeKalb County Government, the aforementioned responsibilities (and AvivA’s love of news and communication) segued naturally into a volunteer writing assignment for the Smoke Signal. After all, she was already the “go to” person for some of her neighbors who had county government related questions. She didn’t mind a bit, and thus began her enjoyable task of contributing to a valued publication which positively connects members of the Smoke Rise community.
AvivA is a native of South Carolina and graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She earned a Master of Mass Communication from the University of South Carolina.
She began a broadcasting career in her home state at WLTX - TV 19 where she worked as a part-time television news writer while attending graduate school. AvivA has worked for several television news stations, including four stations in Georgia; WSB - TV 2, WXIA - TV 11, WGCL - TV 46, and WMAZ - TV 13.
She has taught mass communication classes and video production classes at Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta and American InterContinental University in Buckhead.
AvivA loves to travel and fondly remembers her time living abroad and in Hawaii. However, she remains very content in DeKalb County – with her loving husband and two incredible sons, Nigel and Xander.
